Glens Falls Wing Fest @ Downtown Glens Falls

Twenty four restaurants from Glens Falls and Queensbury face off in the inaugural Wing Fest on Saturday, May 2, from noon to 5 p.m. in downtown Glens Falls, hosted by the Glens Falls Collaborative with support from the Glens Falls Business Improvement District and City of Glens Falls.

Tasting is from noon to 3 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy live music by Triple Threat, Jeff Kingsley and The Sound Factory while they enjoy downtown and sample from the restaurants.

Tickets, $1 apiece or 12 for $10, will be for sale at four ticket booths stationed with bright orange signs around Glen, Ridge and Maple Streets. The number of tickets needed for a taste will vary by restaurant. Folks who sample from at least six different restaurants can vote for the People’s Choice award, which will be given at 4:30 p.m. in the bandstand in City Park. There will also be a Judge’s Choice award given at this time. Judges are Ward 5 Glens Falls City Councilman James Clark, Queensbury Town Supervisor John Strough III, Post-Star foodie Doug Gruse, Joe Retort of Bridgewood Foods, Queensbury resident Scott Rager and Glens Falls resident Doug Kindron.

Participating restaurants include Morgan and Company, the Queensbury Hotel, Downtown City Tavern, Gourmet Café, Spot Coffee, Superior Cantina, Samantha’s Café and Catering, Davidson Brothers, Siam Thai Sushi, Rare Earth Wine Bar, Hometown Smoothies, the Bullpen, Cheesecakes Like No Other and Thai Sushi Aroy Dee from Glens Falls.

Queensbury restaurants are Mia Pizzeria, the Docksider Restaurant, Bogey’s Pub and Grill, O’Toole’s Restaurant, Uno Pizzeria and Grill, Outback Steakhouse, The Tavern, Recovery Room Sports Grill, Ninety Nine Restaurant and Rainer’s at the Ramada.

The Post-Star will set up a photo booth outside of the Wood Theater for a “step and repeat” red carpet photo opportunity where folks can feel like a celebrity. Drop by for a little paparazzi action and check poststar.com to see your face in their special “Click” gallery.

An INFERNO wing eating competition will take place at 3 p.m. Competitors are invited to push their taste buds to the limit in a fiery race against time by eating all the extremely hot wings they can devour. Meet at the Pies on Wheels “Wing Wagon” on Ridge Street in City Park. Space is limited and advance registration is available at www.glensfallscollaborative.com.

The winner is awarded bragging rights and a refund of their entry fee. Winners are announced at 4:30 p.m. during the awards ceremony. Competitors must sign a waiver and be at least 18 years of age and of sound mind and health. The $20 entry fee is to benefit Glens Falls Hospital.

The Glens Falls Collaborative is a group that was created in 2012 by a group of dedicated merchants who wanted to cross-promote and increase business flowing to Downtown Glens Falls. It also organizes Boo2You, Take A Bite and Hometown Holiday.

The event is sponsored and supported by the City of Glens Falls, the Glens Falls BID, the Wing Fest Committee, Advokate, Leland Paper Co., Inc., Morgan and Company, Regional Radio Group, Tim Harris Photography, Trampoline Design, Phyllis Brown of DragonWing Art and a team of dedicated volunteers.
